SPATTERN Webinar
on Spa Settlements and Thermal Heritage

The University of Belgrade – Faculty of Architecture, within the framework of the SPATTERN research project, is organizing the international SPATTERN Webinar on Spa Settlements and Thermal Heritage, which will be held online on 2 June 2026, starting at 11 CET time via Microsoft Teams Platform 

The webinar is conceived as an international research forum dedicated to contemporary perspectives on spa settlements, thermal heritage, and the relationships between landscape, health, culture, and urban development. Bringing together researchers, institutions, and projects from across Europe, the event aims to open dialogue on methodological approaches, spatial transformations, heritage interpretation, and future development frameworks related to thermal environments and spa territories.  

The program gathers participants and projects from Spain, Italy, Greece, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, and Serbia, creating a platform for comparative exchange and future collaboration. The webinar is structured through two thematic sessions focused on: 

  • historical, cultural, and spatial perspectives on thermal landscapes and spa environments;  
  • contemporary approaches, urban transformation processes, and future-oriented digital methodologies.  

Participating projects and initiatives include: 

  1. Healing Spas in Antiquity and Thermascape (Spain)  
  2. LOUTROTOPOS (Greece)  
  3. Transformations in the Architecture and Spatial Planning of Spa Towns in South-Western Poland (Poland)  
  4. Therapeutic Landscapes in Spa Environments (Czech Republic)  
  5. Govora Heritage Lab (Romania)  
  6. BALNEa (Italy)  
  7. SPATTERN – Future Heritage of Spa Settlements (Serbia)  

The webinar will conclude with a closed discussion session among project representatives dedicated to exploring possibilities for future networking, consortium building, and joint international funding initiatives.
